Lopsided result to be sure. But did I hear someone say, Sharks are leading our competition? In that light perhaps it wasn’t such a “terrible” result. It was our lowest runs scored, but it was not our worst run differential (rounds 5, 11 & 14 were worse). OK, so I’m stretching to find a positive out of that game. It was the game with the least walks conceded (well done JJ & Dan); and near the bottom of our strikeouts in a game.

It may not have helped us drive in runs but all bar one us put bat on ball, even if only to foul off pitches. I’m thinking of our second innings. Only three batters (Ben K, Thomas & Ethan) to the plate, but Sharks had to throw 19 pitches to achieve 3 outs. Six of those pitches were fouled off. That determination continued into our next innings, when Axel and Mike chewed 13 pitches (4 more fouls). How much of a contribution did that make to JJ achieving our one and only hit as the next batter? Contributions can seem minor but they can all be important.

The final round (20) gives us one more go against the Bosco team we have gone down to by one run in each of the last 2 times we’ve faced them. If we can take the improvements and determination shown recent games, particularly yesterday’s game, we have an excellent change of turning the tide. I think we can also give St George, the other Bosco team & even Dolphins a surprise if we can bring our A game in the rounds leading up to the final round.

If anyone has a way of turning down the temp during baseball games, I’d appreciate if it could be implemented. I only played half a game but it has taken me overnight to fully recover from it. There may be implications for my appearances in future summer seasons.

Next game: St Pats v St George at Phil Austin 1 on 10:00 Sun (28/01)
