We’re on a roll! Two in a row.

This was not a win coming from lots of passed balls leading to extra bases and runs, as was the case last week. It didn’t come from more unearned runs than we conceded. We finished with more earned runs than they did. We didn’t receive a lopsided number of walks or hit by pitch – in fact we gave them the advantage on this one. We won because we everyone hit pitches. The majority had safe hits, and even those of us without safe hits drove in a run. Yes, they made a high number of errors, but that’s what happens often in 6th grade when you hit the ball and hustle to the base.

We also took more outs in the outfield than we have all season. Six fly outs and one outfield assist. A couple of missed opportunities but more taken than missed. It made a huge difference.

Our pitching was a little erratic. JJ had a good second innings after a couple of misplays in the first caused it to go too long. Dan finished their 3rd innings strongly but couldn’t repeat the dose in the 4th. Adam pitched the last very well considering he had caught all but 4 innings on a terrible day to be in catching gear. In those stretches the strike percentage was high, but it fell away sharply at the other times. Not a surprise given how much the weather conditions was draining us (or was it just me that was being drained?). No matter the subtleties, between them they did enough to put us in a position to win. We then just had to bat to score 3 runs for the win. We did it, only conceding 1 out in the last. It was nice to be on the good side of a walk off.
