A close result. They did have an extra half innings up their sleeves, but forcing them to bat in the last half innings would have been quite an achievement. It just wasn’t to be.

Continued improvements, particularly in the batting. We out hit Bosco 11 to 10, had fewer Ks (3 to 6) and received more walks and hit by pitch (9 to 6). Where we came a bit unstuck was leaving runners on at the end of innings (at least 2 at every innings).

Apart from everything else we need to learn, base running, particularly base stealing, has to be on the training agenda. Most of us have good (enough) speed to swipe a few bases. That was definitely the case in this game. – a very deliberate pitcher, who rarely looked at runners let alone attempted any pick offs, and a catcher whose throws had a rainbow arc. Even if we are not stealing, we need to get better leads particularly at second base, and we definitely need to be in motion (secondary lead) when the pitcher releases the pitch.

Next game: St George v St Pats at Evatt on 10:00 Sun (26/11)
