It’s hard to remain positive when you get absolutely hammered by a team that were without a win in their previous games (3 losses and a draw). Despite that we stayed in the game reasonably well. Everybody reached at least once and nearly everyone scored a run and / or drove in a run. Only one strikeout. So we took the walks, or a bruise, (15) and hit the ball when we could.

It was a hard day’s work for our pitchers, but they kept throwing strikes (more strikes than balls – 52%). A couple of missed plays (some real errors, others more indecision or inexperience) extended both innings. But Bosco kept finding a way to hit the ball into open space. Their high hit rate also confirmed we were throwing a lot of strikes. We can’t win games unless we throw strikes. We’re on the right track in that department. Now we need to beat the bat with some pitching variation (location, speed, and break are needed), and close the gaps in the field (more preparation before the pitch might lead to better reaction times, and as a consequence smaller gaps in the field).

We are on the move to Division 6 as of next round. Perhaps our range of skills will be better suited to that environment.

We have access to one of the best baseball brains our club has produced in Matt. Ask him questions and pay attention to his answers and advice. Even if you didn’t ask the question – listen to his answers. That situation perhaps awaits you in the games ahead.

Next game: Sharks (B) v St Pats at Sylvania on 10:00 Sun (22/10)
