Very lopsided result, not helped by playing one short. Despite that a lot of effort shown, with some very inexperienced players on the left side of the infield. Thrown into the deep end due to circumstances.

Dan threw well particularly in the first innings, with 3 strike outs. 3 runs scored in that innings but none were earned. A better defensive innings might have reduced his pitch count from 37 to 28. 9 may not seem a lot of pitches, but when pitching stocks are low every pitch counts. A better batting innings immediately after that might have given him a little bit more of a breather. Perhaps that’s why he struggled to manage consecutive strikes until the fourth batter in his second innings of work, which happened to be their highest scoring innings. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Dan and Matt have to stop hitting fly balls for opposition fielding practice. Over the last 2 games combined they have managed 6 fly ball outs from 9 At Bats. It’s great they are hitting the ball and doing it well, but we need them running the bases and driving in runs. The opposition can look after their own practice sessions. I think they have been super unlucky. In 6th grade not all well struck fly balls are caught even when the fielder has little to do to get to the ball. Oh well! Perhaps their luck, and with it our team’s luck, will change over the coming weeks.

Next game: St Pats v Sharks at Tom Evans 2 on 12:30 Sun (03/12)
