A new season and (lots of) new teammates. Experience we lack, but young legs and arms and lots of enthusiasm will make for an interesting season.

We were a little lucky this round. This Illawong team seemed also lacking in experience and seemed at times a little lacking in guidance. This allowed us to be very competitive.

JJ got us away to a great start retiring 3 of their first 4 batters on 7 pitchers. Lots of help from the outfield with 2 great catches. We answered with 2 runs, and chewed up 25 pitches in the process. It never hurts to add load to a pitcher. Particularly early in the season many pitchers won’t go more than 50 or 60 pitches. It’s always good to get to the opposition’s second and third pitching options. Another exemplary innings from JJ in the third. He retired 3 from 3 on just 9 pitches.

By the end of three innings, we had a slim lead. We maintained it in the fourth, and extended in the fifth. Our first win.

Mid-week training / batting tunnel sessions will help us progress. But we need lots of brain learning to go with our physical learning. Ask lots of questions and listen to the answers. We have a major resource when Matt prowls the sidelines or runs a training session. Don’t miss an opportunity to talk to him about the game. Wade too has extensive experience. Another invaluable resource.

Next game: East Hills v St Pats at Kelso 1 on 12:30 Sun (17/09)
